This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About ist das erste Album der Indie-Rock-Band Modest Mouse in voller Länge. Das Album wurde am 16. April 1996 bei Up Records veröffentlicht. Es wurde sowohl im Compact-Disc- als auch im Vinyl-Format veröffentlicht. Die Vinyl-Veröffentlichung enthält zwei zusätzliche Titel, "Edit the Sad Parts" und "A Manic Depressive Named Laughing Boy". "Edit the Sad Parts" wurde später auf der Interstate 8 und der Up Records-Compilation in den USA veröffentlicht. "A Manic Depressive Named Laughing Boy" ist nur auf den 1996 von Up und 2014 von Glacial Pace veröffentlichten Vinyl-Ausgaben erhältlich. Viele der Titel handeln vom Reisen mit dem Auto und von der Einsamkeit und Isolation, die mit dem Landleben verbunden sind. Sad Sappy Sucker sollte vor This Is A Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About Nothing to Think About veröffentlicht werden, wurde jedoch verzögert und zu den Akten gelegt.
