Division von Newcastle
Die Division of Newcastle ist eine Bundeswahlabteilung für das australische Repräsentantenhaus im Bundesstaat New South Wales. Die Abteilung ist um die Stadt Newcastle herum angesiedelt, nach der sie benannt ist.
Die Division war eine der ursprünglich 75 Divisionen, die für die ersten Bundeswahlen 1901 eingerichtet wurden. Seit ihrer Gründung wird sie von der Australian Labor Party geführt. Die Labor Party hat bei den allgemeinen Wahlen nie weniger als 58 Prozent der Zweiparteienstimmen erhalten. Nur ein einziges Mal hat sie sie beinahe verloren, als sie bei einer Nachwahl 1935 53 Prozent der Stimmen erhielt. Es ist die einzige ursprüngliche Division, die seit den ersten Bundeswahlen von nur einer Partei geführt wird.
Mitglieder
Die Division of Newcastle hatte seit 1901 nur fünf Mitglieder. Dies ist die geringste der ursprünglichen Divisionen. Von 1901 bis 1958 wurde der Sitz von der Familie Watkins gehalten. David Oliver übernahm den Sitz 1935 von seinem Vater David. Der Bruder von Allan Morris, Peter, war ebenfalls im Bundesparlament und vertrat die Division Shortland. Der Bruder von Charles Jones, Sam, war in der gesetzgebenden Versammlung von New South Wales.
