Durand wurde zunächst Bear Creek genannt. Er liegt an den Ufern des Chippewa-Flusses, etwa 24 km (15 Meilen) von seinem Zusammenfluss mit dem Mississippi entfernt.
Geschichte
Das Gebiet Durand wurde 1856 von Miles Durand Prindle erstmals besiedelt. Prindle kam in einem Kielboot namens "Dutch Lady" den Fluss hinauf. Er nahm Regierungsland auf dem Gelände der heutigen Stadt ein. Durand wurde am 12. April 1887 zur Stadt.
