Dentin
Dentin oder Dentin ist verkalktes Gewebe, das die zweite Zahnschicht bildet. In der Krone (oben) eines Zahnes befindet sich Dentin zwischen Zahnschmelz und Pulpa. In der Zahnwurzel befindet sich Dentin zwischen Zement und Pulpa. Das Dentin macht den größten Teil eines Zahnes aus. Dentin ist gelb. Die Gelbfärbung des Dentins zeigt sich in einem Zahn, weil der Zahnschmelz halbdurchsichtig ist.

Zusammensetzung
Dentin setzt sich zusammen aus
- 70% Hydroxylapatit (ein Mineral, das in Zähnen und Knochen vorkommt)
- 20% organische Materie (Materie, die von Lebewesen stammt)
- 10% Wasser
Entwicklung
Der Prozess der Dentinbildung wird Dentinogenese genannt. Er wird durch Odontoblasten, eine spezielle Art von Zellen, die später bei der Zahnbildung aktiviert werden. Im Gegensatz zum Zahnschmelz kann ein Zahn ein Leben lang immer mehr Dentin bilden.
Arten
Dentin wird je nach Herstellungszeitpunkt in verschiedene Typen unterteilt.
Primäres Dentin
Das Primärdentin macht den größten Teil des Zahnes aus. Es ist die dicke Masse zwischen Zahnschmelz und Pulpa. Das Primärdentin ist die Art von Dentin, mit der ein Zahn beginnt. Es kann auch circumpulpal (das die Pulpa umgibt) Dentin genannt werden. Manteldentin ist eine separate, härtere, aber dünnere Schicht, die das Primärdentin von der Zahnkrone trennt.
Sekundäres Dentin
Sekundäres Dentin wird hergestellt, nachdem ein Zahn bereits im Mund erschienen ist. Diese Art von Dentin wird lebenslang hergestellt. Neu hergestelltes Dentin befindet sich sehr nahe an der Pulpa. Es befindet sich zwischen Pulpa und Primärdentin.
Tertiäres Dentin
Im Gegensatz zu Sekundärdentin wird Tertiärdentin (drittes in der Reihenfolge) nicht lebenslang kontinuierlich hergestellt. Tertiärdentin wird nur dann hergestellt, wenn der Zahn beschädigt ist.
